These images were made across museums, markets, city streets, and sacred spaces, from Seattle to Miami, and Nebraska in between. They ask a single question: are the people in them — are any of us — actually present to the lives we're living?

The recurring subject is attention. Its presence is rare. Its absence is ordinary. We stand before masterworks on our phones. We sit beneath declarations of love, alone. We move through spaces dense with meaning and arrive nowhere.
The series ends where it begins — with presence — but transformed. The woman who opens it faces the world with defiance. The women who close it face something inward, together, in a light that asks nothing of them.
I am in here too. Fragmentary. Still looking.
