Amagat is a project that revitalizes the former Théâtre de Verdure du Fossat by combining staged portraits, historical research, and reflection on the interaction between truth and fiction in every representation and the construction of collective history

Amagat (which means "hidden" in Occitan) is a sensitive exploration of the connections between territory, memory, and representation, rooted in the history of the Théâtre de Verdure du Fossat in Ariège.
Designed as a permanent set celebrating regional identity, this place has faced many challenges — relocation, fire, and eventual closure — while remaining deeply embedded in collective memory.
Through a participatory investigation combining archives, testimonies, and staged portraits of local inhabitants, Amagat questions the boundaries between reality and fiction, spontaneity and representation, visible and invisible.
Without directly illustrating the story of Martin Guerre, the famous 16th-century case of imposture that took place in Artigat, a neighboring village of Fossat, the project nevertheless resonates with its themes: shifting identity, self-perception and the perception of others, as well as the balance of truth and fiction in any representation. By reactivating this abandoned theater through body and gesture, Amagat explores how a place and a community reclaim their history, between collective memory and reinvention.

I invited former volunteers of the UDAC association, which organized the performances at the Théâtre de Verdure, to reenact certain scenes from the past in order to turn them into archives.
