periferial is an artist book on peri-urban housing and proximity, exploring how residential landscapes shape human relations, erode common space, and transform the emotional and cultural experience of dwelling.

periferial is an artist book that investigates the peri-urban landscape and the changing experience of dwelling on the outskirts of the city. Rooted in a lived, in-house perspective, the work examines proximity, the use of living space, and the circular relation between people, architecture, and the natural environment.

Moving between documentation and reflexive observation, the book records how new residential developments reshape the rural microcosm, erase natural landscape and local values, and produce fragile forms of collective life. Modernization is accompanied by structural deficiencies, unfinished construction, floods, garbage, and tensions around the common area, which becomes shared yet increasingly no one’s responsibility.

Periferial includes 254 color pages and was published in Bucharest in 2020. The volume features photography and book design by Alfred Schupler, a text by Carla Francesca Schoppel, English translation by Bogdan Sassu, and was printed by Typography Fabrik. It was issued in an edition of 10 signed and numbered copies.
