February's Photography Awards and Opportunities

The PhMuseum Photography Grant, Lunigiana Land Art, Organ Vida Festival and CENTER's Grants Program are among the many opportunities accepting submissions this month. Check them out and learn how they might help you develop your career. 

PhMuseum Photography Grant / Deadline: February 17 / Fee: 25-35 euros

The annual PhMuseum Photography Grant is designed to support the production and promotion of visual projects through cash prizes, educational activities and exposure across international festivals, and online media. To celebrate its 10th edition, a jury formed by Thomas Sauvin, Alejandro Cartagena, Shoair Mavlian and Joanna Milter will be awarding a total of €10,000 in cash prizes. Furthermore, the main jury will select up to 9 honourable mentions and 40 shortlisted projects, that will have the opportunity to be projected at Verzasca Photo 2022, Jakarta International Photo Festival 2022, PhMuseum Lab and promoted on the PhMuseum channels.  

Many additional opportunities are also enriching this year program with 2 solo shows granted by Jon Uriarte (Artistic director of Getxophoto) and PhEST team offering exhibitions in their respective festival plus a residency bursary rewarded by Jenny Nordquist (Director of at Landskrona Foto). Cortona On The Move's Director Paolo Woods will select and invite a photographer for a public presentation during the opening days of the Italian festival. While the PhMuseum team will grant 6 portfolio reviews, to 6 emerging participants, which will have the chance of selecting a mentor of their choice from the PhMuseum Education Program.

This call is open to all photographers, there is no specific theme, and from traditional documentary photography to experimental storytelling all approaches are welcome. The deadline for submissions is February 17th and with an entry fee of 35 euros. To find out more and to submit your work visit

Lunigiana Land Art / Deadline: February 21 / Fee: None

Winners of the Borghi in Festival promoted by the Direzione Generale Creativita Contemporanea del Ministero della Cultura (Italy), Lunigiana Land Art presents its first edition. As part of the On-Site program, Spazi Fotografici, in collaboration with Materia, is promoting a call, open to all and free of charge, offering workshops, art residencies and production budgets of up to 6,500 euros (tax and expenses included). 

Taking place across the 12 municipalities of Lunigiana in Tuscany (Italy), this large-scale project aims to combine the peculiarities of the territory and artistic creation (hence the combination of land/art). Creating a festival that functions as a system activator and meeting opportunity between communities and artists the main aim of the initiative is to connect the strength of site-specific art to the singularities of the Lunigiana area. Everything that will be made and created on-site between March and June will be presented in a collective event in Pontremoli, scheduled from 30 June to 3 July 2022, to mark the final weekend of Lunigiana Land Art.

The open call will award 6 artists / and or collectives, working with visual arts through any type of media or technique. There are no age, location or geographic origin limits, however, meetings and presentations will be mainly conducted in Italian. Istanbul Photo Awards / Deadline: February 15 / Fee: None

Open to all professional photographers, the Istanbul Awards aim to contribute to the sphere of news photography as an international contest organised by the Anadolu Agency (a global news agency with 100 years of experience). Offering generous cash prizes from 1,000 USD up to 6,000 USD the application is open to professional news photographers worldwide and there is no application fee.   

Applicants can choose to apply to more than one category, but the same picture cannot be submitted twice. There are seven different categories; Single News, Story News, Single Sports, Story Sports, Single Nature and Environment, Canon Story Daily Life, and Story Portrait. The 1st prize winner of Single News will be nominated as “Photo of the Year” and will receive 6.000 USD in total. Applications must be submitted by 15 February, at 23:59 UTC+3, every submitted photo must be taken in 2021 (1 Jan. 2021- 31 Dec. 2021). Photographers may submit both published and unpublished photos. Organ Vida Festival 12th Edition / Deadline March 6 / Entry Fee: 30 euros

The 12th edition of Organ Vida Festival invites artists from all over the world who work in the medium of photography as such or in an expanded form (video and sound, spatial installation, or performance) to respond to the theme “No tears left to cry”. The members of the jury will select 10 projects to be exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb main venue for the Organ Vida International Photography Festival. The opening is set for 29 June, selected artists will be awarded a complete production of their work, receive a feature in the official catalogue, and accommodation for 3 nights during the festival week.

Organ Vida is a leading Croatian institution, promoting and researching contemporary photography practices since its foundation in 2008. With the aim to create platforms for knowledge exchange, education, and showcasing works of young and established contemporary artists, Organ Vida has grown to become the biggest and freshest biannual photographic event in Southeast Europe.

The submission deadline is set for 6 March and artists from countries in the Balkan region (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, the Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia) have a reduced entry fee. To find out more about the requirements visit Organ Vida.



BBA artist Prize 2022 / Deadline: February 28 / Entry Fee: None

For the 7th consecutive year, the BBA artists prize is open to emerging artists of all ages (above 18)  and all nationalities. They offer a group exhibition in Berlin in June 2022 and up to 4 cash prizes. All the applicants will be informed in March whether they have made it into the long list and will be promoted on social media. BBA is interested in authenticity, perseverance, professionalism and outstanding artworks, no matter the medium. Further information on how to submit your work at:  

8th Singapore International Photography Festival Open Call / Deadline: March 14 /  Fee: None

Running independently to the festival theme, the Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF) seeks diverse proposals from the international community to present in Singapore. The esteemed jury members will select 20 portfolios to present across various art spaces in Singapore. There will also be three awards from the open call: Best Portfolio, Best Published Photobook and the Publishing Prize. In order to participate, it is mandatory to send a physical copy of your photobook by 30 April 2022, the online submission deadline is also needed (ends the 14th march at 23:59 (SG)). The winners and those shortlisted will receive a wide range of prizes and opportunities such as participating in the festival, publishing opportunities and more. DragonFLY Gallery Exhibition Open Call / Deadline: February 14 /  Fee: 35 USD

The Second Annual “I am woman” exhibition discusses how when compared to their male counterparts, still today women are often overlooked and undervalued. This call is dedicated to women and those who identify as women. The theme of the works does not need to be women, they can also celebrate, honour and/or remember women in history. Chelsea International Photography competition / Deadline February 15 / Entry fee: Amateur: 25 USD Professional: 45 USD

The Chelsea International Photography competition is open to all candidates both professional and amateur photographers looking to grow their audience and improve their practice. They offer exhibition opportunities and cash prizes, counting with international exposure. There is an extra charge of 5 USD per extra image on both categories.
