PhMuseum Annual #02: Giardino Is Now Available For Purchase Worldwide

The second issue of our printed publication brings together the work of 36 artists and 18 contributors, following another full year in contemporary photography.

From today, you can grab your copy of PhMuseum Annual #02 – Giardino . Across 256 pages, you will find twelve extensive portfolios, four exhibitions, a photographic guide to the city of Athens, and an intermezzo dedicated to education.

As explained in the intro essay by Editor-in-Chief and Artistic Director Giuseppe Oliverio, the title Giardino frames the publication as a metaphorical garden: not a theme, but a mental landscape that, like the gardens that have shaped history, is at once structure and living space, at times engineered, at times meditative, and inherently incomplete. Echoing Epicurus’ garden outside Athens, a place for friendship, debate, and freedom from anxiety, this issue offers no single, absolute vantage point, but a place of refuge where readers are invited to wander and cultivate their own understanding.

The four seasons of the year become chapters, dividing the publication into symmetrical sections in which photographers, writers, curators, and editors meet. Winter – a garden is a place for healing explores photography as a tool to overcome trauma through the works of Xiaoxiao Xu, Arhant Shrestha, and Clara Simas, accompanied by conversations with Giuseppe Oliverio, Charlotte Cotton, and Laura Carbonell. Spring – a garden is a shed for making looks at practices where image-making meets performance with projects by Marge Westreich, Jackson Whitefield, and Jens Masmann, interviewed by Nicolas Polli, Benedetta Casagrande, and Camilla Marrese. Summer – a garden is a house for kinship focuses on photography that serves communities as seen in works by Sergey Melnitchenko, Pretika Menon, and Qiana Mestrich, in dialogue with Colin Pantall, Mariela Sancari, and Carla Liesching. Autumn – a garden is a ground for thinking brings together conceptual and metaphorical projects by Claudia Amatruda, Ying Ang, and Sasha Velicko, with conversations with Sara Lorusso, Greg Tiani, and Katy Hundertmark. Each season closes with an exhibition or event that took place at PhMuseum in Bologna during that time of the year: Hans by Peter Pflügler, Eulogy by Sander Coers, Screenshots from... by Cintia Tortosa Santisteban, and the first edition of the Photobook Mania fair.

Throughout the publication, a photographic inquiry into Athens unfolds season by season, including interviews and toolboxes by Void, Dolce Publishing, Athens Photo Festival, Misc, Zoetrope, Paper Drop, plus ten artists living in the city.

An advertorial developed with MPB, Europe’s top camera reseller pays homage to the cultural significance of cameras featuring pieces of gear selected by PhMuseum Days 2026 exhibiting artists and open call judges. The issue continues our collaboration with ECAL Typefaces, making use of six fonts designed by students at ECAL in Lausanne, Switzerland. The volume was printed in Treviso, Italy, in September 2026. It is independently distributed by PhMuseum.
