PhEST Pop-Up, Creator Labs Photo Fund, OD Photo Prize, and InCadaqués Open Call are among the opportunities we selected this month.

PhEST Pop-Up Open Call 2024

Deadline 10 July / No entry fee

The international festival of photography and art in Monopoli, Italy, launches the fourth edition of the open call together with LensCulture, celebrating the omnipotence of the dream, the disinterested game of thought, and exploring it in all its forms. The festival looks for work that is intense, intimate and profound. Any language, all media, still or moving images, from photography to illustration, collage, and animation are accepted.

Prizes include an exhibition at the 2024 edition of PhEST both for an international artist and for a participant residing in Puglia, Italy, a Leica D-Lux 8 compact camera with Leica DC Vario-Summilux lens and workshops offered by Leica Akademie Italy, publication on one of PhMuseum's and LensCulture's communication channels. The jury is composed of Maurizio Beucci (Leica Akademie), Laura Sackett (Co-founder and Creative Director of LensCulture), Giuseppe Oliverio (Artistic Director of PhMuseum), Arianna Rinaldo (Curator of Photography at PhEST) and Giovanni Troilo (Artistic director at PhEST).

2024 Creator Labs Photo Fund

Deadline 15 July / No entry fee

Started in 2021, Creator Labs Photo Fund is an initiative providing financial support to encourage artists at formative moments in their careers. Submissions are open to any photographer or lens-based artist living in the United States. Thirty selected artists will each be awarded a prize of $6,000 (€5,600), a Pixel 8a device, and will be featured on Aperture.

Previous winners include Ramie Ahmed, Wesaam Al-Badry, Devin Blaskovich, Kierra Branker, Luis Corzo, Daniel Diasgranados, Lisa Elmaleh, Ryan Frigillana, Golden, Jeremy Grier, Avijit Halder, Oji Haynes, Jenica Heintzelman and Ramona Jingru Wang.

OD Photo Prize 2024

Deadline 29 July / Entry fee €17

Artists are welcome to submit their work across all forms of photographic art, including storytelling, narrative, social documentary, construction, archival, conceptual or theoretical practices. Applications can incorporate other art forms such as performance, collage, painting, sculpture, music, literature, and more. One winner will be awarded a £2,000 prize (€2,364), an exclusive interview featured on the 1000Words Magazine website, and a long-term mentorship through Open Doors Gallery. Plus, alongside the Grand Prize Winner and two Runners Up there will be up to 25 artists invited to participate in the OD Photo Prize 2024 exhibition in November. In addition, artist have the opportunity to receive the Metro Mentorship Award, Juror's Choice Awards, InCadaques Award, AJ Page Award and the shortlisted Artists will receive other forms of support and opportunities. Jurors are Katy Barron, Rica Cerbarano, Maria Lax, Professor Steven Macleod, Karen McQuaid, Aron Mörel, Olivia and Valmont from InCadaques Festival, and Tom Page.

InCadaqués Open Call 2024

Deadline 18 July / Entry fee €24

Photographers are invited to submit projects that will be exhibited during the next edition of the International Photography Festival InCadaqués, Catalonia, Spain. Among the 14 finalists, the selected artists will receive a €1,500 cash prize, an exhibition during the festival, with production costs covered. In addition, accommodation and transportation to Cadaqués during the opening weekend, a VIP pass to enjoy all festival events, and 1-year Premium Pass InPhoto Festival App. Plus, different prizes will be awarded, such as the Fotografia Femenina Award (InCadaqués x Fisheye Magazine) and two Special Mentions.

Other Deadlines

Namibia – A Photographic View Open Call / Deadline 31 July / No entry fee

Started as a co-operation on the occasion of the cultural relations between the cities of Mannheim, Germany, and Windhoek, Namibia, the open call addresses artistic works in the medium of photography whose content focuses on historical or contemporary political and/or social issues and tendencies related to Namibia. The selected work will be on view in a solo exhibition at Gallery ZEPHYR – Raum für Fotografie from September 2025 to February 2026 in Mannheim. Plus, the selected artist will receive a €1,000 cash prize, and travel expenses (travel and accommodation) are covered by the gallery.

Intarget Award'24 / Deadline 15 July / No entry fee

On the occasion of the 2024 edition of the Photolux Festival - International Biennial of Photography, in Lucca, Italy, Photolux and Intarget are welcoming photographers and photographic collectives, professional and non-professional, of any genre and nationality. This year the contest is divided into two sections: under the theme Raccontare L'Italia (Telling About Italy), the festival is looking for projects able to tell the story of Italy from an architectural or a landscape point of view, or by making trades, traditions, customs, food, excellence. For A.I. – Artificial Intelligence section, images made through A.I. without any specific theme should be submitted. The winner will be awarded an exhibition that will be included in the official program and catalog of the Photolux Festival 2024.

Boîte Editions Open Call / Deadline 31 July / No entry fee

Studio Boîte invites authors to submit ideas on original artists’ books to be realized. The winning project will be selected by Federica Boragina and Giulia Brivio, editors in chief, and will be realized by January 2025, with a maximum print run of 200 copies.
