Overview

The 2025 edition of the festival delves into the theme (N)ever Enough.

“In today's world, many of us can instantly satisfy any culinary craving, whether it's a dish, a snack, or a specialty. Anytime, anywhere, we can have what we want on our plate in moments: just a few minutes' drive away, ready-made at a restaurant, or delivered directly to our door.

The abundance of choice is often overwhelming. There isn't just one type of pasta, dessert, meat dish, frozen pizza, or cheese on the shelves—there are dozens. The more exotic, colorful, and unusual, the better. And everything is available in seemingly endless quantities, at any time of day or night.

What incredible luxury. Isn't it? Yet this luxury has geopolitical, climatic, and social consequences. Every food we consume must be grown, irrigated, nourished, harvested, processed, packaged, transported, displayed, and paid for.

The fourth edition of Yeast Photo Festival explores the stark contrast between the abundance that fills our tables and the scarcity that marks the lives of many. On the one hand, we live in a world where every gastronomic desire can be satisfied instantly; on the other, this same excess comes with a hidden cost, impacting the environment and those—near and far—who struggle to access the necessities of a dignified life. A precarious balance between surplus and lack, between the privilege of immediacy and its long-term consequences.” – Edda Fahrenhorst

Yeast Photofestival was founded in 2022 with the aim of exploring and promoting a renewed relationship between humanity and the environment through the language of photography and the visual arts. The festival aims to be a place of cultural ferment and transformation, showcasing multimedia works that speak to respect for the environment and human biodiversity.

Since its first edition, Yeast Photofestival has identified the photographic medium as the meeting point between artistic innovation and culinary tradition, between local ecosystems and global landscapes, to exorcise the fear of an apocalyptic climate future and indicate possible new positive scenarios.

The festival searches the past and present for traces of a new world. Quoting the poet Franco Arminio, Yeast Photofestival is "the festival of the future on the tables of the archaic ." "Food is identity" is the theme of the event, which is developed each year according to a specific theme.
