Directed and curated by Alfio Tommasini, the festival takes place in a mountain valley, made up of small villages of stone houses and surrounded by dense, lush nature.

Overview

Verzasca Foto aims to promote emerging international photographers and to support visual arts in rural and peripheral areas, by giving free space through connection and dialogues with nature, offering access to different forms of expression and ways of visual storytelling. The festival is an intimate and informal meeting place where participants have the opportunity to share ideas and points of view.

Artists with humanistic or conceptual approaches are invited to interact with the territory. Their images, placed in the woods or in the exteriors of villages, establish a materic relationship with the land, merging with the natural surroundings.

During festival days, they offer a series of exhibitions outdoors and indoors, artists presentations, guided visits, meetings with artists, portfolio reviews, live music, and project screenings, including the projection of the 34 shortlisted PhMuseum 2024 Photography Grant projects. Over the years, the curation has focused on different themes which share a profound interest in humanity with its feelings, its positions, and its surroundings. The exhibitions examine local, national, and international realities and narratives with an emphasis on diversity, inclusivity, and conservation.

Artists with narrative, documentary, and conceptual works are invited to interact with the local territory and establish a material relationship with the land. Their works, often exhibited in woodlands and rural Verzasca villages, merge with the natural surroundings.
