Created by Le Bal Books, Rolling Paper is a festival dedicated to independent photo publishing.
Overview
The event brings together around thirty international publishers of contemporary photography in Paris. With free admission, this year Rolling Paper features a wide-ranging programme combining concerts, a program of launches, book signings, performances, projections, meetings, an installation and a workshop.
For this new edition, LE BAL Books invites Laure-Anne Kayser (Area Books) and Pierre Hourquet (Temple) to present, in the form of a "reading room", their respective research funds around the theme of anticipation and speculative and futuristic stories. The duo offers a selection of books (photobooks, literature, philosophical essays, etc.), a selection of experimental films*, and some focuses on artists' work in progress. This collective fund will address the themes of dystopia, utopia, fantasy, aberrations, technology, science fiction and the apocalypse: a sort of archeology of the future.
Highlights of the programme include the Speedbooking, the show's pop-up table dedicated to self-publishing and young creation. Artists and photographers will each take turns there for a few hours throughout the weekend to present their projects.
