Ragusa Foto Festival, with its 13th edition, is confirmed as an important appointment in the panorama of contemporary photography.
Overview
In an age such as ours, which is going through changes that put it under pressure, with increasing global crises and existential difficulties, the spiritual dimension of the human being emerges as a central theme. The need to reconnect with one's self, to know oneself less superficially, to regain a deep dialogue with one's humanity and with others, strongly emerges. Spirituality understood, then, as an inner quest, which transcends different cultures and religious denominations. As well as different social and economic statuses.
In a world that seems to value only appearance, without emotions, centered on technology and finance and affected by processes of globalization that are expressed in an anonymous and homogenizing culture, it becomes indispensable to rediscover the value of ethics, so as not to run the risk of losing the true meaning of life. That meaning which, after all, is the search for the human. It is essential to become more aware of who we are and the direction where we would like to go, in order to ensure greater social cohesion and to adopt more sustainable behaviors, even from an environmental point of view. To restore centrality to the inner identity of man, then, as an expression of a culture of listening and welcoming and a key element in counteracting loneliness and existential emptiness.
A rich programme of exhibitions, events, workshops, conferences, which will see the presence of many internationally renowned artists international reputation, will offer interesting food for thought on the theme chosen for this edition: Beyond Appearance.
Among the exhibited artists are Maud Rallière, Jessica Backhaus, Alessia Rollo, Maria Lax, Cristina Vatielli, Charles Freger, and Johannes Seyerlein.
Plus, portfolio reviews will take place during the opening weekend with experts such as Benedetta Donato, Irene Alison, Claudio Corrivetti, Denis Curti, Tiziana Faraoni, Alessia Paladini, Jessica Backhaus, and Paola Sammartano. Participants will be eligible to compete for selection for the Best Portfolio Award, a prize of €500 and the opportunity to exhibit their project at the next edition of the festival.
