Since the creation in 2010 of Planches Contact, a festival-laboratory of photographic creations in Deauville, photographers have been invited to engage with the city of Deauville, France.

Overview

The 14th edition of the Festival Planches Contact supports creation through a program of residencies based in Deauville. It is a starting point to explore the territory's identity, having Normandy as a setting and field of investigation, from Dieppe to Mont-Saint-Michel, from the coast to the interior lands.

After a year of creative residencies, the projects of 25 international photographers and artists, established and emerging, are ready to be presented in an open-air circuit, throughout the city, on the beach, and indoors. Exhibitions, meetings, round tables, workshops, portfolio readings, auctions, and evening competitions shape Deauville’s autumn every year.

Photography, in all its expressions, takes over the city from October to the beginning of January,  with a series of works by artists that redesign the public space and change the way it is perceived. The festival develops its commitments, alongside artists, in helping with production and distribution to the public, and in the creation of an original collection of contemporary photography linked to the territory.

In 2023, the guest projects include works by Robert Doisneau & Malick Sidibé, Richard Pak, Olivier Goy, and The Anonymous Project. Guests in creative residence include Jacopo Benassi, Luca Boffi, Elina Brotherus, Olivier Culmann, Omar Victor Diop, Max Pam, Salvatore Puglia, Margot Wallard, Matt Wilson and Jean-François Spricigo.
