PHotoESPAÑA 2026

PHotoESPAÑA returns to Madrid, transforming the city into an international hub for photography with more than 40 exhibitions celebrating image-making, experimentation, and visual culture.

Overview

Under the theme Reimagining, the 29th edition of PHotoESPAÑA celebrates photography as a space for creativity, experimentation, and questioning reality. This year's festival champions curiosity, imagination, liberation, and rebellion, while also paying tribute to adolescence and youth as a time of possibility and transformation.

The Official Section features more than 40 exhibitions across nearly 50 venues, presenting works by internationally acclaimed artists including Richard Avedon, Robert Frank, Viviane Sassen, Isabel Muñoz, Colita, Isabel Azkarate, Talia Chetrit, Laia Abril, Bego Antón, Greta Alfaro, Rafał Milach, José Quintanilla, and Gorka Postigo. Highlights include Viviane Sassen's first solo exhibition in Spain, LUX & UMBRA, as well as major presentations dedicated to Richard Avedon and Robert Frank.

The Netherlands is the invited country of this edition, with a dedicated programme of exhibitions and professional activities. Alongside the Official Section, the OFF Festival highlights the role of galleries within the photographic ecosystem, while the PHE Circuit expands the festival through an open and evolving programme across Madrid. Since its founding in 1998, PHotoESPAÑA has established itself as one of Europe's leading photography festivals, bringing together museums, galleries, artists, and audiences from around the world.
