PhotoBrussels Festival aims to bring together for one month all the amateurs, actors and professionals of contemporary photography. The Festival offers a program of exhibitions, workshops, conferences and guided tours.
Overview
Created in 2016 at the initiative of Hangar by Delphine Dumont, PhotoBrussels is an event that establishes the Belgian city as an essential player in the international photographic scene and is part of the European Month of Photography (EMOP), a network of photography festivals present in various European cities. The festival connects the local audience with international visitors and photography professionals, in an exhibition circuit in various cultural venues (art galleries, museums, art centres) within the Belgian capital.
PhotoBrussels stands out by focusing on contemporary photography and highlighting both emerging and established artists. Highlights include four group exhibitions: one presenting the results of an experimental co-creation in which each photographer responds to another through a photographic act; one that showcases a new wave of photographers from the African diaspora and the global south; one focusing on the Belgian photography scene; and another in which photographers explore their relationship with the body. Among the artists taking part in this year's exhibition are Pablo Avendaño, Manon Lanjouère, Emma Hardy, Michael Ackerman, Vincen Beeckman, Oriane Thomasson, Patricia Todoran, Nyaba L. Ouedraogo, Fab Rideti, Erwin Blumenfeld, Cecilia Belén Sandoval, Derrick Ofosu Boateng, Jonathan Rosić, Jean Depara & Alain Polo Nzuzi.
