Overview

The Month of Photography in Bratislava aims to stimulate dialogue between different cultures and points of view on what is key for contemporary art and society. In the 33rd edition, the program turns our attention to past and contemporary events in the country, with exhibitions dealing with surveillance and State Security archives, stories from the former Czechoslovakia, and a section dedicated to contemporary Slovak photography.

In 2023 there is also a sector dedicated to Asia, where Maryam Firuzi, Gohar Dashti, Fatimah Hossaini, and Jiří Turek will present projects coming from Iran and Afghanistan that deal with censorship, patriarchy and violence. In the block that crosses the regional geographical borders, two exhibitions will have an important place – the contemporary world journalistic photography of the Global Peace Photo Award and a specific project presented in a public space that popularizes the European scientific project CERN.

The largest space of the festival is devoted to the work of Canadian singer Bryan Adams, a personality whose photographic work includes portraits of personalities such as Kate Moss, Amy Winehouse, the British Queen Elizabeth, Mick Jagger, Pink, Pamela Anderson. In addition to the exhibitions, other events such as conferences, book launches, workshops, and film screenings will be part of the program.
