The Leipzig Photobook Festival is an international festival that presents and celebrates the potential of the photobook medium in a contemporary context.

Overview

Directed by Calin Kruse and Silvia Gaetti, and organized by dienacht e.V. and the GRASSI Museum for Applied Arts in Leipzig, the third edition of the Leipzig Photobook Festival is dedicated to the topic of Protest. The topic will be researched from different perspectives in exhibitions of historical and contemporary books, a panel discussion and short presentations. The rich program include discussions, presentations, exhibitions, book presentations, portfolio reviews, a speed dating event and a get-together.

Curator for publishers and juror for photobook competitions Luciano Zuccaccia has been interested in photobooks as a collector and researcher for several years and has built up the specialized collection Protest in Photobook. The weekend will have exhibiting a selection of 25 historical and contemporary photobooks from the collection, which show protest movements in Iran. From rare pamphlets and leaflets to propaganda material and artistic and unique photo books. Luciano Zuccaccia will be present and available for questions and discussions.

Among the main events, in cooperation with the PhotoBookMuseum, Cologne, all 50 dummies from the Dummy Award will be on display, including the 4 winning books. The photobooks are open to the public and can be browsed through. In addition, several one-day workshops will be held during the Leipzig Photobook Festival: How do you earn a living as an artist? Patricia Morosan, Bookbinding workshop with Michal Fuchs, Build your own pinhole camera with Ferdows Faghir, and With transfer printing to your own freely designed photo booklet with Melanie Schindler.

Guest of the festival, the Fotobus will be parked in front of the museum and the students will present their work on tables in front of or inside the bus. The Fotobus Society is a cultural and social offer for all students studying photography, design, film, art or media.
