In 2023 the festival’s theme questions the ubiquity of photographic images in a symposium, a panel discussion, and exhibitions. What has changed since images are available anytime, anywhere?
Overview
The main exhibition of the Festival Fotografischer Bilder is Darktaxa project: the Regensburg Constellation. The name darktaxa is borrowed from taxonomy, referring to animals that exist but do not yet have a name or have not been assigned to a species. In the show, the audience has the opportunity to see artists responding to the theme by experimenting with digital photography, CGI, motion capture, 2D/3D/4D softwares, 3D scanning, AI, deep learning, GANs, photogrammetry, 3D printing, and augmented reality.
Moreover, the festival offers a screening session dedicated to photography and cinema, and lectures from internationally renowned scholars and experts from the art and photography world, as well as from guest artists, in a three-day symposium. A panel discussion about the meaning that photographic images have in everyday life and the new tools accompanying them brings to Regensburg Dr. Stefan Gronert (Sprengel Museum Hannover), Dr. Roland Meyer (Ruhr University Bochum) Prof. Achim Mohné (FH Dortmund), and Lars Willumeit (Photo Elysee Lausanne, CH).
The programme also includes the award ceremony for the German Photo Book Prize, several partner exhibitions, and two special events about media literacy/media education, and about photography and depression.
