The 2nd edition of Freezer International Photography Festival its taking place on November 7 and 8, 2025 in La Plata, Argentina. The festival presents an open call for exhibitions, talks, workshops and a photobook fair for photography in Argentina.
Overview
Under the theme of The Impossible, the Freezer International Photography Festival will celebrate its second edition on November 7 and 8, 2025, in La Plata, Argentina. Over two days, the event will bring together artists, researchers, publishers, and the general public in a program combining exhibitions, open talks, workshops, and a book fair, with the aim of expanding the boundaries of international contemporary photography in the capital of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The UNLP Art Center, an artistic space belonging to the National University of La Plata, will be the center of the festival, hosting open talks, a book fair, and the international exhibition "El Aleph," by Juan Manuel Lara (Argentina) and Sheung Yiu (Hong Kong/Finland), curated by Luciana Demichelis, created thanks to a PAR Grant from the Faculty of Arts of the National University of La Plata.
Rocío Ruscelli's Fútbol exhibition will also be on display there, and the main exhibition of the international competition, "The Impossible," will be on view at another venue in the city. This exhibition will feature a specially selected authorial project curated by twenty unique photographs related to that theme. To participate in the selection, the festival's call for entries is open until October 12th on its website.
The program of open talks includes the Regional Photography Inter-Career Discussion (with the participation of the UNLP Photography cathedra, IMDAFTA, and CEPEAC 1 of La Plata), the presentation of the book Wacho by Diego, and the screening of the documentary Julia se revela (Julia Reveals Itself), directed by Claudia Holgado Chacón and Andrea Quiroz Linares, about the life and work of Julia Chambi López, the first Andean-Peruvian female photographer. The film, made in Cusco with a team entirely composed of women audiovisual producers from southern Peru, rescues a foundational story in Latin American visual memory.
Additionally, artist Martín Bollati will participate in discussions about five contemporary Latin American photography books, and photographer María Eugenia Cerutti will share her artistic work as President Néstor Kirchner's photographer.
In parallel, various self-managed cultural spaces in the city will host workshops coordinated by invited artists: Photographic Collectives by Luciana Demichelis, Photographic Script for Projects by Erica Voget, Conservation of Photographic Archives by Lucía Ledesma, and Cyanotype by Celica Véliz. Photographer Nicolás Janowski will also lead a portfolio review session, designed to support and promote creative projects.
The Publishing Fair, coordinated by Ayelén Ruiz de Infante, held during both days at the Art Center, will bring together publications by artists, independent publishers, and photography collectives, consolidating its position as a meeting point for creators and the public.
The festival will close at Sputnik Var, with a party combining live visuals and music. There will be a VJ Book presentation with the photographer Amparo Fernández and photography projections from Expo Foto La Plata. The stage will feature live music by Jazmín Mazzuchelli and DJ sets from Nómada Escena, transforming the evening into a vibrant fusion of image and sound.
The Freezer International Photography Festival was founded in 2024 with the aim of showcasing new productions, promoting cross-cultural exchanges, and networking among Latin American and international photography artists, publishers, and institutions. In this new edition, Freezer 2025 proposes immersing oneself in "the impossible," exploring images that expand the boundaries of the imagination and challenge the limits of experience.
