Fotografica Bergamo Festival

Courage is a choice. Photography is testimony. Fotografica Bergamo Festival, with its 5th edition, is confirmed as an important appointment in the panorama of contemporary photography.

Aristotle saw courage as the virtue that lies between recklessness and cowardice. Today, it remains just as vital — both for confronting global crises and for navigating everyday life. Derived from the Latin cor, meaning heart, courage has inspired thinkers for centuries. At Fotografica 2025, it comes alive through images of those who embody it.

The fifth edition of the biennial event, promoted by Associazione Fotografica APS in collaboration with the Municipality of Bergamo, is titled As Brave As We Can. Each edition attracts more than 10,000 visitors, and in 2025 the festival returns with an ambitious program of thirteen exhibitions across two iconic venues: the Monastero del Carmine — a cultural landmark of great historical and artistic significance, home since 1996 to TTB Teatro Tascabile di Bergamo – Accademia delle Forme Sceniche — and the former Ex Ateneo di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, a historic cultural space overlooking the Visconti Fountain behind Piazza del Duomo.

In these evocative settings, photography becomes living testimony — telling stories of struggle and hope, chronicling resilience. Here, courage is not only a heroic act, but also the daily commitment of individuals fighting to uphold their ideas and challenging oppression and adversity.

A rich program of exhibitions, events and conferences featuring internationally renowned artists will offer thought-provoking perspectives on this year’s title: As Brave As We Can.

The exhibiting artists include Silvia Alessi, Forough Alaei, Peter Caton, Roselena Maristella, Francesco Roncoli, Nicolò Filippo Rosso, Fabrizio Spucches, Brent Stirton, Valentina Tamborra and Antony Todd, as well as Love You Always, curated by journalist Laura Leonelli. Completing the program are two additional exhibitions by the winners of the Fotografica Next international open call.
