Fotodoks 2025

The festival for contemporary documentary photography returns for its 12th edition, presenting photographic works by international artists.

Overview

FOTODOKS is punctuated by a group exhibition and a three-day accompanying festival programme consisting of artist talks, guided tours and workshops.

This editon's theme is Long Time No See – implying a sense of untold stories collapsing into the present – FOTODOKS 2025 will delve into the visual poetics of remembering and the renegotiation of the past as a narrational entity within documentary photographic practices. Long Time No See brings together 10 international artistic positions in the expanded field of contemporary documentary photography.

This year’s participating artists are Sander Coers, Arash Fayez, Calvin Hein, Thero Makepe, Edgar Martins, Yun Ping Li, Eva Rivas Bao, Sarah Sullivan, Anya Tsaruk, and Eva Vei.

For the first time, and at the invitation of Architekturgalerie München, FOTODOKS will present its forthcoming edition in a former air raid shelter dating back to 1941 – now serving as a vibrant cultural platform in Munich’s city centre that positions itself at the intersection of architecture, photography, and sculpture.

The exhibition can be seen beyond the festival period and is accompanied by regular guided tours. The independent festival is curated collectively by photographers and aims to look at a broader field of positions in documentary photography and the environments it illuminates.
