Encontros da Imagem 2023

With the theme Essay For The Future, the 33rd edition of Encontros da Imagem explores contemporary challenges: representation and inclusion, environmental issues, politics and social movements as powerful forces for change.

Overview

The annual festival celebrates classic and contemporary photography and visual arts by showcasing emerging and established artists since 1987. Exhibitions from 47 photographers will be showcased in 4 Portuguese cities - Braga, Porto, Guimarães and Barcelos. The 2023 edition also includes a cinema programme, talks, portfolio reviews and screenings.

This years' theme explores the challenges that the world continues to experience and the conversations that are still necessary. As democracies show signs of fragility and extremism grows in the frenzy of the virtual world and real life, we must take time to consider new forms of organization, ways of life and creation. With "Essay for the Future", Encontros da Imagem invites us to reflect about the present so that we may, together, imagine and build the future.
