Arles Les Rencontres de la Photographie 2023

Every summer since 1970, over the course of more than forty exhibitions at various of the city’s exceptional heritage sites, the Rencontres d'Arles has been a major influence in disseminating the best of world photography.

Overview

The 54th edition of the Rencontres d'Arles serves as a seismograph of our times, capturing the world's state of consciousness. This year's festival, in collaboration with the Cité Anthropocène in Lyon, explores the Arlesian territory and its ecosystem, acknowledging the urgency of climate change and its impact on our daily lives. With the theme A State of Consciousness, the festival serves as a thinktank, with scientists, researchers, thinkers, and artists embarking on voyages of discovery to assess the territory.

Various exhibitions highlight different perspectives on history and current events. Additionally, there is a focus on representing female art and showcasing the Nordic countries' photography scene. The festival also spotlights emerging artists and offers special attention to the work of students from the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie.
