Presented across multiple locations in Clervaux – Cité de l’Image, All Is But Temporary brings together photographic series by Austrian artist Kay Walkowiak that reflect on transience, transformation, and humanity’s enduring desire for permanence. Installed throughout the town, the exhibition invites visitors to encounter photography within public space, creating dialogues between artworks, architecture, and landscape.
Spanning projects created in Japan, India, and Europe, Walkowiak examines how cultural traditions, everyday objects, urban environments, and natural phenomena are shaped by the passage of time. From the quiet contemplation of Ephemera, inspired by the Japanese concept of mono no aware, to the ritual imagery of In Worship, the symbolic kites of The Mechanics of Form, and the decaying structures of Display and A Different Order, each series offers a different perspective on the fragile nature of existence.
Rather than presenting transience as loss, Walkowiak approaches it as a condition that gives meaning to life, memory, and human experience. Throughout the exhibition, photography becomes both document and metaphor: preserving fleeting moments while reminding us that every image is itself a trace of time. Together, the works form a meditation on impermanence across cultures, landscapes, and systems of belief.
About The Artist
Kay Walkowiak is a Vienna-based artist working across photography, film, installation, and performance. His practice investigates how concepts of time, perception, and memory shape human experience, often drawing on long-term research and intercultural dialogue. By placing Western traditions in conversation with non-Western understandings of temporality and coexistence, Walkowiak creates open-ended works that invite reflection and speculation.
