The Hellenic Centre for Photography is accepting submissions from emerging photo-based artists with a connection to Greece to apply for participation in the Young Greek Photographers program 2024.

Overview

Since 1987, the Hellenic Centre for Photography has been organizing the annual exhibition Young Greek Photographers as part of the Athens Photo Festival. In tune with today’s needs, the program expands its horizons beyond a mere exhibition event and is now regarded as a platform for presentation, education, networking, and parallel activities, all aimed at benefiting young artists.

The Young Greek Photographers Platform provides a comprehensive framework encompassing exhibition, development and networking opportunities. Its primary objective is to promote emerging photo-based artists with a connection to Greece while showcasing the diversity and vitality of the Greek photography scene.

Practical Info

This call is open to artists up to 35 years old who reside permanently in Greece or Greek artists residing abroad. Applicants must submit up to two projects, with all required entry materials through the online entry form. The selected proposals will be exhibited at the Benaki Museum / Pireos 138 from 6 June to 28 July, 2024, as part of the Athens Photo Festival 2024. The exhibition will then travel to Thessaloniki. The Hellenic Center of Photography will cover the production costs for the selected works featured in the exhibition. The selected projects will be presented in the Athens Photo Festival catalog.

Selected artists will participate in Portfolio Reviews and engage with experts from the international photographic community, offering them the opportunity to receive feedback on their work, and will have access to networking and collaboration opportunities, and their photographic works will be proposed for consideration at international festivals and competitions.

Two finalists will participate in the Photoxenia artist residency program in Crete. Additionally, they will gain access for on-site research and will create new photographic works. Selected photographers will have the opportunity to participate in the mentoring program offered by the Athens Photo Festival and the Hellenic Center of Photography. One photographer will receive a scholarship to participate in the one-year educational program, ArtFotoMode. This program is conducted in 6 cities: Hamburg, Warsaw, Athens, Naples, Budapest, and Berlin.
