With their fifth book award VOLUMES Zurich would like to highlight and support the production and producers of 2024 with four cash prizes of CHF 500 each. This award is open to all artists and independent publishers worldwide.
Overview
All of the submitted publications will be showcased online and in the award exhibition during the VOLUMES 2024 fair, taking place on 16-17 November, at Zentralwäscherei in Zürich. Three of the prizes will be decided by online voters and one by the VOLUMES team, to support especially artists and publishers with small means.
Practical Info
Applicants can submit their work using the online application form. Each publisher/artist can only submit one publication and the submitted work has to be published between November 2023 and November 2024. Each submission needs to include a JPG of both the cover and of a double page from the publication, and a video of max. 3 min length to introduce the publication. The applicants are completely free in which ever way they would like to do this. The video must be uploaded to Youtube or Vimeo and the link must be sent to VOLUMES by email. Plus, a copy of the publication needs to be sent to VOLUMES before 31 October 2024. All the publications sent will not be returned afterwards as they will become part of our growing VOLUMES archive, which gets activated through curated selections.
About VOLUMES
VOLUMES is a non-profit organisation and collective created in 2013 in Zürich. It is ran by Anne-Laure Franchette, Patrizia Mazzei and Gloria Wismer. The collective aims to support the various facets of international art publishing and introduce it to a larger audience in Switzerland through series of events and an ongoing research agenda.
Operating in various locations, VOLUMES organises large and small book fair events, which showcase the production of local and international independent publishers as well as self-editing artists who use small means of production. Exploring the creativity gravitating around the practices of art publishing, the collective regularly invites performances, installations, workshops, symposiums or projections within their events. In 2020 they launched their annual Book Award, to further showcase and support recent independent publications. They started alongside the VOLUMES Book Club, a series of talks, gathering people and books in a series of intimate events.
