Tall Poppy Press Open Call 2024

The Tall Poppy Press invites innovative proposals from artists and photographers living/working in Australia, or work with a connection to Australia, to be published in 2025/2026.

Overview

This open call is an opportunity for emerging and established artists connected to Australia to submit their projects for potential publication. Tall Poppy Press is dedicated to fostering new narratives and providing a platform for diverse visual art practices. They are looking for two standout proposals that showcase exceptional artistic vision and a solid rationale for publication, along with a partnership approach in the publishing process.

In their previous open call, they published Phuong Nguyen's Sunshine and are working on Odette England's To Be Developed, To Be Continued (forthcoming).

Practical Info

Artists need to share the work they would like to publish (any visual art medium/combination of mediums, as well as curatorial, and archival projects are welcome), in addition to a clear reason why they would like to make a book and why with Tall Poppy Press.

One proposal will be selected for publication with a contribution of $10,000 from Tall Poppy Press. On the other hand, a second proposal will be selected for publication with a contribution of $5,000 from Tall Poppy Press. Every entry will receive some feedback from Matt Dunne or Morganna Magee. The selected proposals will receive all of their usual publishing work: design, editing, sequencing, working on a great launch, presence at fairs, marketing, etc.

About Tall Poppy Press

Tall Poppy Press is a Melbourne-based publisher of photography books, workshops and merch. Their aim is to publish excellent Australian photography, or collaborations between Australian and non-Australian artists. At Tall Poppy, we believe in emerging artists, financially fair models of publishing and making books somewhere between a coffee table tome and a zine. We like imperfection, texture and things that feel joyful. Founded in 2021, TPP is run by Matt Dunne and Morganna Magee.
