Prix Viviane Esders 2024

The Prix Viviane Esders is awarded to a photographer who has been working for 40 years, and who has a personal style and artistic approach.

Overview

Preference is given to entries presenting a questioning approach to the image, a singular style of non-documentary reflection and a strong commitment. The €60,000 prize (€50,000 for the winner and €5,000 for the two runners-up) is particularly aimed at photographers who need financial support to continue their work.

Practical Info

Submissions must include the completed application form and the signed and initialed rules, a written biography with a CV, a portfolio of 40 dated and captioned images summarizing the photographic career (the photographs must be integrated into PDF files). The selection must be accompanied by a short text of presentation of the whole and/or a short text by series of photographs. Plus, a note of intention motivating the candidature by justifying the utility of this endowment to prolong its work, a copy of the identity document attesting the age of the candidate. Applications may be submitted in French or English.

A jury composed of Viviane Esders, Emma de Caunes, Antoine de Galbert, Marion Hilsen, Luce Lebart,
Jean-Hubert Martin and Nicolas Trèves will select the winner with Viviane Esders among five nominated photographers. The exceptional grant is intended to celebrate the continuity of a career and encourage sharing. Part of this grant, €10,000, must be used by the winner to contribute to producing a book.

About Prix Viviane Esders

The Prix Viviane Esders aims to highlight the vision and itinerary of a life, that of photographers, authors whose medium has tirelessly animated Viviane Esders’ career since the 1980s. This prize reflects the coming together of two complementary and inseparable life paths, that of its founder, dedicated to understanding, loving and exhibiting photographers, and that of a photographer, dedicated to creation in the hope of creating a work of art.

The Prix Viviane Esders falls within the framework of programmes developed by the endowment fund created by Viviane Esders. As a continuation of a passionate, independent and committed life path, the purpose of this endowment fund is to continue the contribution of its founder to photography, to bring to life a collection of nearly 600 pieces, most of which are the result of singular encounters, and to extend the initiatives of transmission and sharing around a love of photography that Viviane Esders promotes.
