Premio Editorial de Fotografía Documental Galega 2025

One selected photographer will receive a fully funded book publication with Galician publisher Fabulatorio imprint and a €1,000 author's rights fee.

Overview

For the fifth consecutive year, the initiative aims to support and promote the work of photographers born in, residing in, or creating work focused on Galicia, providing them with the tools to publish their work in book format.

Coinciding with the ninth edition of FFoco, A Coruña Photography Festival, held at the Luis Seoane Foundation during October and November 2025, this edition seeks to encourage the creation and production of new photobooks and to foster connections between photographers and publishing professionals. Previous editions of the prize have successfully brought projects to life, including Orige ou cando a marea baixa by Ana Paes, Entre as aguas by Ana Núñez Rodríguez, and MAN by the Cadela Negra collective, while the fourth edition winner, Entidade Singular by Iván Nespereira, is soon to be released.

Practical Info

Photographers or collectives developing work with a connection to Galicia—whether thematic or authorial—are invited to submit their projects free of charge, either as a series of images or in mock-up book format. While the thematic focus is open, submissions should be original, documentary, and unpublished in book format, with no prior editorial rights committed to third parties. Participants must hold all corresponding image rights.

Applicants must send their project or photographic series—between 30 and 60 images—in a single PDF document. This should be accompanied by a brief description of the work, a short biography, and contact details.

Winning the Galician Documentary Photography Publishing Award includes the publication of the project with Galician publisher Fabulatorio imprint. Acolá will cover all costs related to the editing and selection of images, layout, photomechanics (pre-press preparation), paper selection, and other pre-production processes for the book, as well as its final production, printing, and distribution. No part of the process will involve any cost to the winning author. Additionally, the price recipient will receive a total of €1,000 from Acolá in author's rights fees.

About Asociación Recreativo Cultural Acolá

The Acolá Recreational and Cultural Association is a non-profit entity properly registered with the Galician Government (Xunta de Galicia). The association organizes activities to highlight the work of professional photographers, strengthen the local artistic community, and energize the cultural life of A Coruña. In addition to this Publishing Award, Acolá is the driving force behind FFoco, the only photography festival held in Galicia.

Furthermore, the organization of this Publishing Award is made possible thanks to the support of the Marta Ortega Pérez Foundation (MOP Foundation). Since its creation in 2022, the foundation has centered its activity around holding world-class exhibitions and is structured on three pillars: A Coruña, photography, and fashion.
