Photobook Open Call by Sonntag Grant

The Sonntag Grant for Photography, in collaboration with Replika Publishing, invites FLINTA (female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans, agender) artists to apply for a photobook open call.

Overview

We are looking for projects that can challenge the boundaries of the book as form. In particular we are looking to support artists and work that might not otherwise find a path to publication and offers space for under-recognised voices and projects rooted in conceptual depth, material inquiry, and artistic dialogue.

Submissions are open globally until midnight on May 31, 2026 (Berlin/CET) and must go through our website: sonntag-grant.org

Practical Info

One artist is selected to work directly with Replika Publishing to produce a new photobook. The print run will include at least 350 copies, with 50 copies going to the artist.

After completion of the project there will be a book launch event hosted at Bildband Berlin, with travel costs up to €300 and accommodation for the event covered.

Projects should be finished or at an advanced stage of development. Applicants are asked to submit up to 20 images from the project, selected from a substantially larger body of work.

We are primarily interested in projects rather than fully developed book dummies, but do accept dummies as part of the application (in digital format only). The selected artist should be open to further developing the project in collaboration with Replika Publishing, including feedback and editorial direction during the book-making process.

About Sonntag Grant

The Sonntag Grant is an annual photography grant aimed at supporting FLINTA (female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans, agender) artists. It began on Sonntagstraße, Berlin, during a conversation about what it means to support artists today. The name Sonntag (Sunday) stuck – not just for the street, but for what Sunday represents: time outside of work, time to focus, reflect, or catch up. For many artists juggling other jobs, it’s the only day they can really work on their practice, or take part in something social, political, or creative.

This grant is their way of making a bit more space for that. It’s built to support underrepresented voices in photography, especially FLINTA artists, whose access to resources and recognition is too often limited.

They are a not-for-profit, grassroots initiative operating out of Berlin, Germany.

About Replika Publishing

Replika Publishing is an independent, artist-run platform for experimental publishing. Founded in Berlin in 2015, and operating between Berlin and Valencia since 2020. They collaborate closely with artists to produce works in small editions which challenge the boundaries of the book as form. Replika supports artists and work that might not otherwise be published and offers space for under-recognised voices and projects rooted in conceptual depth, material inquiry, and artistic dialogue. Their approach is collaborative, flexible, and considered, with a focus on thoughtful production and a commitment to artistic value.
