LUMÍNIC Festival Open Call 2025

Lumínic is presented as the first photography festival in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Spain.

Overview

LUMÍNIC is conceived as an inclusive and participatory event, a space for photographic knowledge and dissemination, where visitors will be able to enjoy consecrated and emerging authors, both national and international. The festival is a visual experience, breaking into the city to study the photographic act from new perspectives, in a journey through exhibition halls and also public spaces. During the festival season, a complete program dedicated to author photography is displayed and features exhibitions, talks, workshops and round tables. Linked through a new thread each year, it aims to be a benchmark for contemporary photography and an inspiring experience for visitors.

The selected projects will be awarded with their exhibition at the next edition of LUMÍNIC Festival in the city of Sant Cugat del Vallès, which will take place between May, June and July 2025. For this call, 1 award-winning project and 10 second prizes will be selected.

Practical Info

This year Lumínic aims to dialogue through photography with those projects that show the different power relations in our human condition. How can we make established power visible and how it affects human relationships? What power relations surround us in our everyday lives? How do we interact and act in the complexity of established power relations? How are oppositions to power represented in our societies? How the strategies of power, such as control, persuasion and influence, among others, can be represented through the photographic medium?

Applicants must submit between 10-15 photographs. Projects will be accepted in any technique, method and materialization as long as it can be included in the photographic visual art. In addition, submission must include a brief biography of the author and contact details, a brief explanation of the project/statement, a brief explanation of whether the work is unpublished or, if not, what its journey has been (places and dates of exhibition or publication in the case of printed media), and a declaration signed by the participant/s stating that they are the sole author of the project and have all the rights of reproduction and sale.

The selected project will be awarded an individual exhibition at the 2025 edition of the festival. LUMÍNIC will be responsible for the production of the work for a maximum amount of €500 or, if this is already produced, with the remuneration of €500 in fees (taxes included in both cases). Ten access awards will be given with two different exhibition formats. The first consists of the projection of the project during the opening of the exhibition of the winner of the call, sharing the works among all the prize winners and creating an artistic community. The second option is optional for the artist and involves participating in a group exhibition in Blanca gallery in Sant Cugat del Vallès, forming part of the Luminic Festival exhibition circuit with the contribution of a work produced by the artist.
