The international festival of contemporary photography, Kranj Foto Fest, announces its open call for projects to be exhibited during the festival in 2024 in Slovenia.
Overview
For a whole month, at the warm height of European summer, the old town of Kranj is transformed into an exciting hub of contemporary photography bringing together emerging and established photographers from all over the world. The city becomes an open-air gallery with photo exhibitions happening in the streets, at historic landmarks, in art centres, galleries, forests and by the river. The rich program includes artists talks, round tables, night projections, guided tours, workshops and portfolio reviews.
Practical Info
This year, the call for entries has no thematic limitations. The jury will select one winner who will have a solo exhibition at Kranj Foto Fest 2024 with all production costs covered by the festival, a € 1,000 cash prize, in addition to travel expenses of up to € 400 and lodging for 3 nights during the opening week of the festival (August 2024); and will shortlist a number of finalists for group exhibitions all around the picturesque alpine town of Kranj with all production costs covered by the festival and lodging for 3 nights during the opening week. By being selected, the artists will have the opportunity to work closely with the curatorial team in planning their exhibition. The placement of the shows will be determined by the nature of the project and the curatorial guidelines, whether in an indoor or outdoor space.
Applicants should send one photo project/series from 10 to 20 photos, a short description (max 800 characters) in English about the project, including information about its title and the year in which the series or photo story was developed, and a bio.
The jury is formed by Aneta Kowalczyk and Grzegorz Kosmala (Blow up Press), Carol Körting (Photo editor at Leica Fotografie International), Christina Töpfer (Editor-in-chief at Camera Austria International), Marina Paulenka (Founding Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska Berlin), Fernanda Prado Verčič (Director of Kranj Foto Fest), Barbara Čeferin (Galerija Fotografija) and Ciril Jazbec (Documentary Photographer).
About Kranj Foto Fest
Kranj Foto Fest is an annual festival of contemporary photography that was established in 2021 in Slovenia with the aim of exhibiting, supporting, and developing the works of Slovenian and international photographers. The medieval history of the town mixes with both the present and the future with a view to innovation and creativity. It was here that in 1842, Janez Puhar – the first Slovenian photographer – created a unique process of reproducing photography on glass.
