KG+ Select 2027 Open Call

Open worldwide, KG+SELECT selects around 10 artists, each receiving JPY 200,000 to produce an exhibition, while the final prize recipient receives JPY 500,000 toward a solo show at KYOTOGRAPHIE 2028.

Overview

KG+SELECT invites artists to propose a solo exhibition centred on photography or works incorporating photographic elements, including moving images and installation. Around ten finalists will be selected to take part in a group exhibition during KYOTOGRAPHIE / KG+ 2027 in Kyoto, Japan, with each receiving a JPY 200,000 production grant and an exhibition space of approximately 20 m².

During the festival, the jury will select one KG+SELECT Award Winner, who will be invited to present a solo exhibition as part of the official KYOTOGRAPHIE 2028 program. The prize recipient will receive a further JPY 500,000 production grant, alongside venue and production support, inclusion in the official catalogue, and promotional support.

Practical Info

Applications are open to artists of all ages, nationalities, professions, and levels of experience, including duos and collectives, with no set theme. Applicants must submit an exhibition proposal conceived for a roughly 4 × 5 metre white-cube space, alongside up to 20 images and/or a presentation video, an artist biography, exhibition statement, and portrait. Text materials must be provided in Japanese and English. The application fee is JPY 10,000. Finalists are expected to cover additional costs related to producing, transporting, installing, and deinstalling their work.

About KG+

KG+ is a photography platform held alongside KYOTOGRAPHIE in Kyoto, supporting emerging artists and creating opportunities to present their work to wider audiences. Through KG+SELECT, selected artists receive production support and exhibit during the festival, with one artist given the opportunity to join the official KYOTOGRAPHIE program the following year.
