KBr Photo Award III

The KBr Photo Award is a biennial international prize promoted by Fundación MAPFRE to contribute to the recognition and visibility of authors with a professional career.

Overview

The KBr Photo Award is a biennial international prize promoted by Fundación MAPFRE to contribute to the recognition and visibility of authors with a professional career already underway and whose work shows artistic values of special interest within the tradition of documentary photography. The prize, which is awarded to unpublished projects, aims to distinguish and promote the career of the winner by means of a cash prize (€25,000), the exhibition of the project in the Foundation’s two galleries (KBr and Madrid) and the publication of the respective catalogue. Created in 2020, the KBr Photo Award’s first two editions have gone to Anastasia Samoylova (2021) and Felipe Romero Beltrán (2023).

Pratical Info

The KBr Photo Award is open to national or international photographers of legal age who plan to carry out a new photographic project or complete one already started, unpublished in both cases, and that has not been submitted to any other similar call. Candidates must have a background that includes at least one solo exhibition or a publication. The theme is open; however, proposals that fall within the tradition of documentary photography will be valued and given priority.

Interested artists must submit their own application in digital format through an online form available on the KBr website, to which they must attach the documentation established in the terms and conditions. The application period will be open for 3 months, from June 1 to September 1, 2025, inclusive. The award will be decided in October 2025, communicated to all candidates, and publicized through Fundación MAPFRE’s website and other media deemed appropriate. Communications will include the winning project as well as the other three finalists.
