Overview
Intergalactica Residency Call is open for emerging as well as established photographers and artists working with the medium of photography, from all galaxies. They are looking for candidates who are concluding a photographic project and seeking curatorial and editorial assistance to further develop their project. The residency will take place during the month of January 2025 at XYZ Books in Lisbon, and will continue online, culminating in the production of a photobook published by XYZ Books and a custom-made digital platform developed in partnership with Fiebre and Bestalde Studio as part of the Intergalactica Project.
Practical Info
Intergalactica invites artists and photographers to explore the multifaceted concept of sustainability. Our contemporary artistic reality asks us to reflect deeply on the issues of climate change, representation, economic pressure, and the brutal realities of war. Interpretations that delve into environmental protection and sustainable use of earth resources, social equity, economic resilience, cultural diversity, and innovation are all welcome. With this open-ended theme we invite you to reflect on the interconnectedness of these topics and their impact on our collective future. Submissions may range from intimate portrayals of local initiatives to broader narratives addressing global challenges and the quest for a sustainable and inclusive future for all.
The winning photographer will be awarded the participation in the XYZ Books Residency Programme in Lisbon, for the duration of 1 month, including accommodation and a maximum contribution of €250 for the flights. Plus, an artist fee of €1,500, and the book published by XYZ Books, with a printrun up to 500 copies, including design, prepress, distribution, press and promotion fully covered. The author will receive 50 personal copies from the first print run and a custom-made digital platform for the project.
The project must be original and unpublished, with no publishing commitment existing with any other publishers. The selected artist will be required to conduct a small workshop with the local community during the residency period. The announcement of the grantee is scheduled for mid-June, with a special recognition given to the top 10 finalists on the Intergalactica Instagram page.
