Getxophoto invites visual artists and photographers from around the world to exhibit their work at the 20th edition of the Festival, which will be held from May 28 to June 21, 2026.
Overview
In June 2026, the Getxophoto International Image Festival will turn 20. After pressing the PAUSE, PLAY, and REC buttons –the themes of the three previous editions– the common thread for the next edition could only be… RESET. This button invites us to reboot the system.
We know that anniversaries are moments to celebrate and rejoice, but they are also excellent opportunities to look back and take stock, to review our archives and get a glimpse of what we have changed. At the same time, this is a time to project ourselves forward with renewed energy, just as when soil is ploughed so that seeds can be sown again.
So for this call, Getxophoto is looking for proposals that use photography, installation, video, actions, digital art, or any other means of visual expression that address the idea of a RESET – in other words, experiences of change, reworking, recycling and reinvention; of life cycles and celebrations; of individual or collective stories of resetting. A system reboot in any of its many forms.
Practical Info
Applicants must submit a bio, 10 to 20 files, along with the project details, such as title, description, year, and image title. Submissions must correspond to the theme of the next edition of the Festival, Reset. Projects may be submitted in both English and Spanish.
Three selected artists will benefit from an exhibition during the 20th edition of Getxophoto Festival with expenses covered by the organisation, a €500 artist fee as Festival participant, accommodation for two nights during the Opening Week, and travel support up to €150.
The jury is composed of Pablo Berástegui (Cultural Producer and Director of La Casa Encendida), María Ptqk (Independent Curator, Cultural Researcher, and Curator of Getxophoto Festival), César Gutiérrez-Aguirre (Independent Curator), and Lea Tyrallová (Editorial Coordinator and Project Director at La Fábrica publishing house).
About Getxophoto
The Getxophoto International Image Festival has been held in Getxo (Basque Country, Spain) for 20 years. The Festival brings to the city different proposals from visual artists from all over the world, establishing a conversation on the proposed theme each year.
Getxophoto is characterised by the radical defence of public space (physical and online) as a meeting place, a place of mutual recognition and a field for experimentation, play and celebration in the face of its homogenisation and privatisation. For this reason, most of its programme is made up of open-air installations, highlighting, on the one hand, the link between the image and the environment and, on the other, generating a more horizontal and participatory relationship with the public.
From its transversal approach, Getxophoto has been expanding through the promotion of the Internet as a space for the development of visual culture. To this end, it runs an online programme that has included different approaches such as automated live processes, interactive websites, podcasts, apps, memes or WhatsApp groups, among other proposals.
