Since 2020, the French Ministry of Culture and the Festival Visa pour l’Image – Perpignan will be presenting two production Grants for Female Photojournalists in recognition of their contribution to photojournalism.

Overview

For the fifth year, the French Ministry of Culture, in association with The International Festival of Photojournalism Visa pour l’Image – Perpignan through Images Evidence, wish to award female photojournalists two grants of €8,000, endowed by the French Ministry of Culture / DRAC Occitanie.

Practical Info

The Françoise Demulder Photography Grants is presented to female photojournalists in activity who wishes to cover a social, economic, political or cultural subject in a journalistic manner, on presentation of a dossier. The Grants will be given to two individual photojournalists and not to a group, with no limitations regarding nationalities, to allow the winners to carry out the photo-reportage which has been presented for the Grants or to achieve a started project.

Applicants shall not enter the project, already begun and submitted for the Grant, for any other Award, Prize, Competition or Grant before the announcement of the Grants Winners in July 2024. They must have completed at least one photo-reportage (published or unpublished) and must be professional photojournalists. They must be able to write and speak in French or English.

The application dossier must include a signed application form, a copy of the applicant’s identity card or passport, an affidavit stating that the candidate is a professional photojournalist (attestation of honor written by the photographer or from an agency or from a newspaper, press card…), a CV, a letter in support of the application including a description of the photoreportage project, and a photo-reportage consisting of 10-20 images. Plus, a projected budget for the photo-reportage project for which the Grant is to be used if obtained. If the financing of the project is to be extended to other partners, these must be approved by Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan, Images Evidence & the French Ministry of Culture who reserve the right not to cite them.

Each of the two recipients will receive prize money of €8,000 in a single payment. In addition, they will need to complete the report before May 1, 2025 with the prospect of a possible presentation of the work, either as a feature in an evening show or an exhibition, at the 37th International Festival of Photojournalism Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan to be held over the first three weeks of September 2025.

About Visa pour l’Image

Visa pour l'Image is an international photojournalism festival established in 1989, which takes place annually in the entire city of Perpignan, France. This is the main and most important festival of photojournalism in France and runs from late August to mid-September for a period of 15 days.
