This year, Foto Colectania and ArtLibris in collaboration with the Friends of Eloi Gimeno Association, will award a photobook the Eloi Gimeno €2,000 Prize for the best photobook in this edition.
Overview
The career of artist Eloi Gimeno, revitalised the world of Spanish photography, taking aesthetic risks, self-publishing, working with elegance in the design of his books and setting in motion processes of collective creation. This award aims to support photobooks that honour Eloi Gimeno’s creative and collaborative spirit.
Practical Info
Participation in the prize can be done in two ways:
A. Participation through the participation tab in ArtsLibris: the first and main way to qualify for the prize will be the presence of the book at the stands of exhibitors, publishers and or projects participating in the ArtsLibris fair.
B. Participation through an independent competition: as an alternative way for all those works that are not for sale at the ArtsLibris fair, they can participate through the Call for Entries opened by the Friends of Eloi Gimeno Association. The works must be sent in digital format (pdf of the book or a sequence of images with the whole book open, as well as a brief biography and description of the project), to: amigoseloigimeno@gmail.com
Of all the works received, the jury will make a pre-selection and will inform the authors of the selected books so that they can send them physically to the fair (Arts-Libris, Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 627, 08010 Barcelona). The Asociación Amigos Eloi Gimeno will pay for the shipping costs and the price of the selected books, which will be exhibited at its stand at the fair.
The prize consists of an economic endowment of €2,000 for the author, which will be provided jointly by Foto Colectania and ArtsLibris. The winning book will also be distributed by the three organisers of the prize during the following year and, among others, will be presented at Foto Colectania. All the books selected by the jury will be acquired by the Friends of Eloi Gimeno association and will be added to its library.
About Foto Colectania
Foto Colectania is a non-profit organisation, founded in Barcelona in 2002, with the aim of disseminating photography and introducing it within the social, artistic and educational field in our country.
The programs undertaken at the Foundation, from exhibitions to activities and publications, are based on the creation of an innovative, participatory and inclusive project focused on thought around image and its basic foundations, enhancing its communicative capacity and its suitability to generate critical thinking.
Foto Colectania especially works at two different levels: on the one hand, within the context of the city of Barcelona, presenting a high-quality cultural offer focused on excellence; and on the other hand, within the international context, producing and disseminating projects by Catalan and Spanish artists abroad.
