The new Guest Room aims to delve into the intricate realm of photography and its complex narratives. Daniel Boetker-Smith, Director of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Photography, has joined forces with editor, curator, and writer Tanvi Mishra.
Overview
This edition of Guest Room invites artists to explore the theme "(make) belief". Despite photography’s historically contentious relationship with evidence, the medium continues to be used to foreground various ‘truths’. Submissions that explore the gap in meaning-making within the image(s) are welcome to apply. Both curators invite photographers to reflect on photography's fictive power, as well as that of truth-telling. They are specially interested in the constructions deployed by photography, and the slippages found when stories are pieced together.
Practical Info
Applicants can submit up to 5 photographs of one project. Works up to 10 min. video are allowed. Prizes include a 1.000€ Guest Room Scholarship and an online showcase on Der Greif. Participants unable to contribute financially can send an email to voucher@dergreif.org to receive a fee waiver.
