Founded in 2023, Deloitte’s Photo Grant positions itself in the contemporary artistic landscape as one of the most important global awards dedicated to photography.

Overview

Under the artistic direction of Denis Curti and promoted by Black Camera, Deloitte's Photo Grant aims to stimulate social reflection and foster the concept of Possibilities by awarding two grants with a combined cash contribution of €60,000. Through this initiative, the Deloitte Foundation seeks to provide concrete support for contemporary cultural production and serve as an observatory of the emerging art scene.

After the successful 2023 edition, which awarded And They Laughed At Me by Newsha Tavakolian (Nomination category) and Dust From Home by Fernanda Liberti (Under 35 category), the second edition is now open and structured into two categories: Reporting and Open Call.

Reporting category

Ten personalities operating in the world of international cultural production, called Segnalatori - will nominate two unpublished photographic works each, composed of at least 40 images, taken by a photographer at their discretion. The signalers include Luisa Bondoni, Paul Ninson, Menno Liauw, Gonzalo De Benito, Laura Sackett, Veronica Nicolardi, Roger Ballen, Francois Hebel, Pierre Andre Podbiesky, Toni Thorinbert.

A jury - made up of critics, professional photographers, museum directors, photo editors, gallery owners - will choose the winner of the second edition of the Deloitte Photo Grant, who will be rewarded with a solo show at the Mudec - Museum of Cultures in Milan, in December 2024, accompanied from a catalog published by 24 ORE Cultura, as well as with a cash contribution of €40,000.

The jury includes Guido Borsani (President of the Deloitte Foundation), Antonio Carloni (deputy director of Gallerie d'Italia), Melissa Harris (editor-at-large of Aperture Foundation), Nicolas Jimenez (photoeditor of LeMonde), Renata Ferri (photoeditor RCS), Claudio Composti (curator), Erik Kessels (curator), Newsha Tavakolian (photographer and winner of the 2023 edition of the Deloitte Photo Grant), as well as the curator of Mudec, Sara Rizzo, and the president of the jury, Denis Curti.

Open Call category

This category is based on an open call for photographers under 35 years of age, who will have to present a project idea on the theme of the award, described both in its contents and in its implementation costs. Participants must also send a portfolio of ten images relating to the project or other works of their choice. Whoever wins this section will get a mention in the review dedicated to the winner of Segnalazioni. The prize recipient will also receive €20,000 for the realization of the project idea and the exhibition dedicated to the project will be held during the next edition of the Photo Grant. Apply before 30 June .

Theme: Possibilities

After Connections, the subject of the first edition of the Deloitte Photo Grant, 2024 is the year dedicated to Possibilities. This year, in fact, photographers are called to look to the future with the aim of grasping the possibilities of change and transformation that the present, personal and historical time presents to us. The word Possibilities invites us to reflect on the power of the choices that each of us, individually and as part of society and humanity as a whole, can make. As individuals we are faced with an infinite number of possibilities, some of which could change the course of our existence, defining our destiny. But humanity itself is a stage of infinite possibilities. Throughout the centuries, we have witnessed an endless expansion of our knowledge, capabilities and aspirations. However, with this growth has also come the weight of global responsibilities and challenges.
