Organised by Photolucida, Critical Mass is an annual online program that makes connections within the photography community.

Overview

Through a pre-screening process, the field is narrowed to a group of 200 finalists who go on to have their work viewed and voted on by over 150 esteemed international photography professionals. From the finalist group, the top 50 are named and a series of awards are given. Critical Mass gets photographers’ work in front of top museum curators, gallerists, publishers, editors, educators, artists, and media producers.

Practical Info

Applicants must submit only one body of work consisting of 10 images, an artist statement (250 words max) about the specific body of work under consideration, print and pricing Information which include title, date, dimensions, media type, edition information (if available), and price.

Among the jurors are experts such as Arianna Rinaldo (Independent Curator, Photo Editor and Photo Consultant), Brittani Taylor (Exhibitions Director, The Light Factory), C. Meier (Exhibitions Director, Blue Sky, Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts), Camilla Marrese (Visual Director, PhMuseum), Conor Moynihan (Associate Curator, RISD Museum), Danny Sanchez (Associate Director, Themes and Projects Gallery), Donna Garcia (Director, Education and Programs, Griffin Museum), Draženka Jalšić Ernečić (Senior Curator, Koprivnica Museum), Elizabeth Avedon (Independent Curator and  Photo Consultant), Federico Estol (Artistic Director, San José Foto Festival), Gail Fletcher (Photo Editor, The Guardian) and George Nobechi (Creative Director, Karuizawa Foto Fest).
