Alt+1000 is giving emerging photographers the chance to take part in the 8th edition of the festival. The call for entries is open to photographers or artists in Switzerland who use photography.

Overview

Artists are invited to apply provided they are at the start of their career (max. 4 years after graduating) or studying at an art school in Switzerland. They may apply individually or as a group. In the case of a collective application, the group designates one person to act as Alt+1000’s contact. A collective application has the same prerogatives as an individual application.

Practical Info

Photographic works should focus on the notion of landscape in a broad sense, revealing the complex economic, political, territorial, sociological and emotional relationships that shape it. Submissions may be artistic, conceptual or documentary in nature. Particular attention must be paid to exhibition format. The ability to adapt to the outdoor exhibition space is one of the main evaluation criteria. Proposals requiring a power supply will not be considered.

Applications must contain artists' written biography and CV, a portfolio representing the work, a statement of intent summarizing the proposed project (taking into account the specific nature of an open-air exhibition, applicants must set out the main lines of the project), a selection of individual works, works from a series or the whole series, or, if applicable, preparatory works for the project proposed for the call.

A fee of CHF 800 will be paid to each artist selected through the competition. The festival is responsible for the production, installation and communication of the exhibitions, which will be presented to the public between August 30th and September 22nd 2025. Alt+1000’s direction will make available its expertise, in terms of both form and content, so that the winners can complete their work on time and within budget.

About Alt+1000

Founded in 2008 in Switzerland, the Alt.+1000 festival takes place every two years. The objective is to intervene in medium mountain regions through photography to raise public awareness of the notion of landscape. Far from the tourist postcard, Alt.+1000 aims to be a place for observing and reflecting on the landscape through photographic exhibitions, artistic residencies, and institutional collaborations.

Designed for art enthusiasts wishing to spend a day in the green, families, nature lovers, as well as professionals, these photographic walks invite festival-goers - from Switzerland and abroad - to discover the works of contemporary artists in the heart of the Jura landscapes. Outside of a major urban center, in the open air, Alt.+1000 broadens and energizes the tourist, cultural, and artistic offerings in a valley considered the Siberia of Switzerland.
