Each issue is central to a specific theme and provides a gallery of inspiring imagery, focusing on each artist with their own experience to share. With an eye towards beauty, quality and novelty, they strive to promote portfolios that stand out for their unique visual signature style and character. Their goal is to help photographers get the exposure they deserve and to inspire others with ideas, projects and goals to help develop their own photography.

Practical Info

Understanding shape and form is one of the pillars of photography composition, and it can make even the most mundane objects become an object of art in its own right. Geometric, organic, positive or negative, shapes influence the degree of aesthetic beauty perceived when we first look at a photograph.

AAP Magazine is looking for the best photographs where shapes may not just influence the image, but where it may also be the subject solely. Whether in architecture, portrait, landscape, nude, street or any other form of photography - classic or experimental, they are open to all genres of photography, showing the elements that abstract into light, texture, shape and shadow.

The award is open to professional and amateur photographers from all over the world who are invited to send up to 40 images.

1st place winner will receive a cash prize of $500 and will have a full portfolio published in AAP Magazine Volume 50: Shapes; 2nd place winner will receive a cash prize of $300; and 3rd place winner will receive a cash prize of $200. The next 23 winners (ranked from 4 to 25) will have their best image(s) or portfolio featured in AAP Magazine Volume 50: Shapes.
