Overview

A workshop with Atelier Tatanka

Atelier Tatanka is offering an intensive risograph printing workshop to create a series of fine-art photographic prints.

Risograph is a Japanese printing technique that combines the efficiency of semi-industrial production with the uniqueness of handmade printing, giving images the brightness, fluorescence and texture typical of its special soy-based inks. The objective of the workshop will be to learn how to print images in 3 risograph colors (yellow, red, blue), through the halftone screening technique. During the workshop, participants will be introduced to the principles of this printing technique and will be guided through all the design and execution stages, from color channel separation, to preparing the press sheets, to producing the photographic prints. Each participant will then be able to make a set of 10 copies of an A4 size color photograph, with the print output typical of this technique.

The workshop is open to all professionals and amateurs of photography or fine-art printing. A basic proficiency in using Adobe Photoshop is required; however, no prior skills in printing techniques are required.

Atelier Tatanka is a visual arts, graphic design and risograph printing atelier based in Bologna, Italy. The atelier deals with editorial, artistic and educational projects, with a focus on printed matter, participatory processes and self-publishing.
