Tamara Merino is a National Geographic Explorer, documentary photographer, and visual storyteller who focuses on human and sociocultural issues, identity, and subterranean communities.

Tamara Merino is a National Geographic Explorer, documentary photographer, and visual storyteller who focuses on human and sociocultural issues, identity, and subterranean communities.

Her honours include being a National Geographic Emerging Explorer, Magnum Foundation’s Inge Morath awardee, World Press Photo 6x6 Global Talent Program, and an IWMF fellow. Merino participated in the World Press Photo Latin America Masterclass and in The New York Times Portfolio Review. Her work has been published worldwide including in National Geographic, The New York Times, and The Washington Post, among others.

Her images have been exhibited at Photoville, the Bronx Documentary Center, Yangon Photo Festival, Lumix Photo Festival, and Athens Photo Festival, among others. Merino teaches workshops of documentary photography and storytelling, including for National Geographic Learning.
