“Screenshots…”is an ongoing project that started in May 2021. With an archive of over 2000 videos it shows the ordinary everyday life from an apartment balcony in Kanagawa, Japan.
“Screenshots from a series of videos about a rice field and its surroundings” started in May 2021 when I moved into this small apartment in Kanagawa, Japan. I started making videos from my balcony on the fifth floor and sharing them on Instagram as a personal diary with my friends. In May 2024 I started taking screenshots of my favourite frames on the train during my daily commute. The result is an archive of everyday life.
This collection of screenshots reflects on how we see, record and keep memories in a fast-paced world where everything moves quickly and is easily forgotten. It provides a small gaze into everyday life where nothing extraordinary seems to happen. People, animals and plants are recurrent themes. The work invites viewers to pause, notice, and reimagine the familiar.
To date I have recorded more than 2000 videos and taken around 3000 screenshots. I still go out almost every day and film before going to work. I believe in the power of small stories, as those are the ones that usually mean the most. Screenshots…is an ongoing project and part of a book of the same name published by Chose Commune.
