A three-step project/process to redefine the concept of intimacy
1.ACTION// Exploration and Discovery
Two bodies—mine and that of a 'model'—meet, often for the first time, in their essential nakedness and interact freely. There are no instructions on what to do; movement is spontaneous and purposeless. Within this flow, the bodies get to know one another through sight, smell, and touch. This encounter unfolds through the exploration of the other’s body.
2.VIDEO// The Loss of Power
As they interact, the bodies film each other using a compact video camera. During filming, the camera is passed back and forth from one to the other.
The singular, authoritative gaze of a lone artist/author is lost. The one filming is, in turn, filmed: hierarchies are abolished, power roles (photographer/artist, model/subject) dissolve, and the gaze is duplicated. WHO IS TRULY CREATING?
It is a total commitment of the self; an act that violates the dynamic where an author holds absolute power over the subject’s representation.
From this perspective, there is no separation due to imposed or chosen roles; instead, a blending occurs. As the gaze generating the image shifts, everything dictated by the ego falls away. The representation follows a vision—a conception of the world—that is never unique, singular, or fixed. It is a fluid, circular, and plural vision.
3.PHOTOGRAPHY// Abstraction
The video is played on a screen and re-photographed—not through stills or screenshots, but by photographing the screen itself.
Photography becomes a further moment in which the immaterial is captured. The gaze at the heart of the video is now compromised; it is plural. Here, through crystallised moments, an intensity, an intention, and the flow of bodies are represented.
The final image is a gaze upon reciprocal gazes; it does not represent the physicality of the bodies but something immaterial: the image that two individuals have created of themselves by merging.
Through a play of 'images-of-images', we arrive at an abstraction where the bodies are hardly recognisable or separable.
This project shows intimacy from the inside; therefore, it is neither a documentation nor a narrative that proceeds linearly.
//I have no control over what you see or what you wish to represent—I am the subject/object of my/your vision
//It is not a shout; ‘me + you’ is a whisper, an imperceptible voice, a rarefied image//
