Where the Light Waits is a cinematic double-exposure photography series from FATUM Poetry, a collaborative visual project by Los Angeles–based analog film photographer and creative director Henry Plant and poet Destin Judy.

Where the Light Waits is a newly released fine art film photography collection from FATUM Poetry — a collaborative visual project by Los Angeles–based poet Destin Judy and film photographer Henry Plant.

Shot entirely on film across Southern California using layered double exposures and still life, the series investigates emotional memory, spiritual symbolism, transformation, and the instability of perception through cinematic narrative photographs. Created primarily with expired Kodak and Fujifilm stock, each image embraces the unpredictability of analog process, where light leaks, color shifts, storied grain, and overlapping exposures become the language.

Comprising 11 images, the collection unfolds as a visual narrative:
Portal → Crests → Clarity → Eros → Devotion → Rest → Surrender → Alignment → Awaken → Alchemy → Becoming

Originally developed alongside the forthcoming FATUM book project, the series reflects emotional and spiritual states of grief, healing, longing, and self-reclamation. Landscapes and abandoned architecture stand in for humanity. Chairs, keys, swings, barbed wire, desert horizons, and passing light become symbols of reflection and reconciliation.

Rather than pursuing technical perfection, the work leans into process and impermanence. Each frame treats time, light, and accident as collaborators, allowing what is seen and unseen to coexist within a single exposure.

Now available globally as an open-edition fine art collection, Where the Light Waits marks the public release of FATUM’s photographic practice.

PORTAL. Salton Sea, California Shot on Kodak Portra 400 (EXP 12), medium format filmDouble exposure. A solitary swing hangs suspended, reflected in still water as mountains dissolve into the sherbet horizon. CRESTS. Shot on Kodak Pro 1000 (PMZ), 35mm filmDouble exposure. A vacant tire repair shop still stands, stripped in the California desert. The nearby gas station echoes with purpose. Mountains rise in the distance, steady and unmoved. Layered paints and graffiti mark the passage of human hands. Will you fill up now?Where roofline becomes sanctity. The sign whispers identity. The land remains.

CLARITY. Southern California - Shot on Kodak Portra 160-4, 35mm filmDouble exposure on film. A forest expands through drifting fog as mountains dissolve into sky. Across the landscape, the notes of Greenfields by The Brothers Four (1960) appear in overlay, where song and wilderness converge. What remains? The trees become breath. The mist becomes space. The song becomes intention.

EROS. Los Angeles, Calif. - Shot on Kodak Professional Portra 400Double exposure on film. Two marble bodies support one another in a Los Angeles garden; suspended and reaching. Roses erupt in petals, pressed across stone hearts. Navigating a web that threads the air, together they bind what appears separate.

DEVOTION. Downtown Los Angeles, California. Shot on Konica Chrome CT-100, 35mm filmDouble exposure on film. Devotional statues: Mary crowned in gold, Christ holding the lamb, hovering in quiet reverence. REST. Salton Sea, Southern California - Kodak Portra 160VCDouble exposure on film. A chair sinks into the salt-crusted earth, loosened by wind and time and rust. A stationed boat lingers nearby, lifted from the water that once carried it. The horizon opens in silence with a swing that fades into what can only be remembered. Here, rest is not comfort. It is surrender.

SURRENDER. Central California Shot on Kodak Portra 160VC.Double exposure on film. A golden field of sheep graze, rippling through dry grass like breath. Hills echo in blue haze, watching over the quiet choreography of the herd. Forms overlap and dissolve, as if time itself were folding, becoming one shared rhythm.

ALIGNMENT. Salton Sea, California Shot on Kodak Portra 400 (EXP 14)Double exposure on film. A lone tire, half alive on the desert floor, is claimed by toxic sand. Time has worn its edges, but it remains fully empowered. As an empty circle holding space, the crescent moon from above divinely aligns at its center, like a celestial offering.Rubber and moonlight. Discarded object and ancient sky.

ALCHEMY: Double exposure on 35mm film. Two moments merge into one frame: a solitary folding chair rests in the sand, while pink piano keys stretch forward like an invitation. Through the double exposure, ordinary becomes possibility. Seat and instrument, rest and expression, earth and sound.

BECOMING. Southern California. Shot on Kodak Portra 160VC-7, 35mm film. Two human forms stand engulfed in flames at the edge of the sea at sunset. Created as a still sculpture and set alight, this moment is a study in love and transformation. Beginning with dissolution and the release of attachment to the self.
