Nuevo Berlín is a work in progress that aims, through research and staging, to delve into the myths surrounding the concepts of mestizaje and colonization that shape the perception of what is supposedly Mexico.

Nuevo Berlín (2024)

Tenochtitlan falls in 1521.

400 years later, residents of the Global North who run a decolonial art magazine decide to call Mexico City, the place where I live and work, “Nuevo Berlín” (New Berlin). This label defines the global perception of the place I inhabit, a specific identity shaped by algorithms fed from history, art, design, and creative industries that want to live something “different" and “authentic”.

Nuevo Berlín is a work in progress that aims, through research and staging, to delve into the myths surrounding the concepts of mestizaje and colonization that shape the perception of what is supposedly Mexico. This visual exercise seeks to stretch the tensions between truth, myth and history to explore the dynamics of power that exist in my context while simultaneously using the "photographic cliché" as a form of representation.
