Capturing subjects fading into mist, water, and shadow, this series explores 'islands of presence' at the edge of disappearance. It reflects the fragmentation of existence and 'islands of memory' we inhabit within the vast sea of time.
In this project, <Vanishing Beyond the Boundary>, I interpret the concept of "Archipelago" not as a geographical formation, but as a symbolic state of isolation and fragmentation in our contemporary world.
The 12 photographs capture beings and structures standing on the threshold of vanishing—a bridge submerged by seasonal tides, tetrapods defying the encroaching waves, and footprints being erased by the wave. Each subject functions as a solitary island, separated from the mainland of "the eternal" and left to exist in a state of precarious beauty.
This visual narrative aligns with the theme of Archipelago by reflecting on the "crises" of disappearance and the fragmentation of memory. However, these are not merely records of loss. By documenting the lingering silhouettes at the boundary of mist and shadow, the work seeks a new model of coexistence. It suggests that even in our isolated, island-like existence, we are connected through common transience. In the silent space beyond the boundary, these "islands of vanishing" form a new constellation of meaning, inviting the viewer to contemplate what remains when everything else fades away.
