Many chronic diseases are treatable, but not curable. Visual Artist captures a story about young adults, who are dealing with serious health issues.

Chronic diseases have gained more attention in the last century as medical research has made immense progress in treating fatal diseases. We can now live with the diseases that used to be a death sentence.

Nowadays many chronic diseases are treatable, but not curable. This makes it possible to live with them, but involves enormous everyday challenges that are usually not visible to outsiders. Young people in particular may not seem or look like they are chronically ill. They often end up feeling not understood und not taking seriously enough in order to get the support they need.

In her work, Mirielle Rohr tries to illuminate the still relatively unknown emotional side of experiencing chronic diseases. She focused on people under 30 years old. By conducting interviews and creating photographic works, she explored the underlying stories of those, who are affected. The background is, among other things, her own experience with a chronic condition, called the irritable bowel syndrome.
