I photograph with a distinct interest in a multidisciplinary approach combining my skills as Botanist and also a Photographer. With this project I tend to show the interconnectedness between humans and microorganisms, using a photomicrography technique to see how their biological structure can influence designs in African fabrics. Microorganisms like algae, fungi. viruses, bacteria, have unique biological cell structures under the microscope making their patterns, shape, colors, and form look like designs that could be imitated in African textiles to look more organic and show the relationship between man and these species that can't be seen with a naked eye. It is interesting to observe the movements of these organisms under the microscope, to see how they have rhythmic movements in a certain kind of order, distinctive of human bodily movement, just like humans there is a continuum of intentional and non intentional. These attributes will be interactive and engaging at the same time using Augmented Reality to display these movements and the interconnectedness of species, mimicking movements, shapes, and forms overlaid on fabric material. The African textiles known as ANKARA or Dutch wax are fading out of designs and patterns in my honest opinion, I tend to look inwards to see how nature through other species can inspire and influence what might be new patterns, shapes, a mix of colors. Movements and forms to a textile industry that has relied solely on human influences and capacity. These microscopic photos highlight the need to protect the nature, by showing the beauty and complexity of life, from a artistic And scientific perspective exploring these possibilities and collaborating with this other world, could be the solutions of our unsolved Problems, from Health, to climate change, biodegradability, environmental sustainability, Architecture and artistic inspiration.
